SCORM courses in the player
How imported SCORM packages launch, save progress, and complete.
Some lessons contain a SCORM package — interactive training built in a tool like Articulate Rise, Storyline, or Adobe Captivate and imported into Mentor. These lessons behave a little differently from native Mentor lessons.
Launching
Open the lesson as usual. You will briefly see Loading SCORM package…, then the package plays inside a frame on the page. A thin status bar at the bottom of the frame reads SCORM runtime and updates as the package runs — *running*, *saved (commit)*, and *completed* when the package reports it is done.
Progress and resume
The package saves progress the same way it would in any standards-compliant LMS:
- Your position and answers are saved whenever the package commits — typically at slide changes, quiz submissions, and when you close it.
- Closing the browser tab also triggers a final save.
- When you come back, the package resumes from where you left off. Resume data is stored per person, per lesson.
Mentor checks for updates from the package every few seconds while it is open, so the lesson completes on the Mentor side within moments of the package reporting completion.
Completion and scores
The package itself decides when you are complete — usually by finishing all slides or passing its built-in quiz. Mentor treats you as done when the package reports completed or passed. Once complete you will see SCORM reported complete, with · score {n} when the package reported a score. Completing the package marks the whole lesson complete and updates your course progress, exactly like choosing Mark complete on a native lesson.
Mark complete manually
Below the frame there is a Mark complete manually button. Use it only when a package finishes but never reports completion (this happens with some older or loosely-authored packages). If your organization requires the package's own tracking, check with your manager before using it.
Session length
A launch session is valid for four hours. If you leave a package open longer and it stops saving, refresh the page — your progress up to the last save is kept and the package relaunches with a fresh session.
Older imports
Packages imported before in-browser playback was available show SCORM package (zip only) with a Download package button instead of playing inline. Ask your Studio author to re-import the package so it plays in the browser — see Import a SCORM package.
If the package fails to load or track, see SCORM playback and tracking problems.
