Assigning work from Studio
Assign courses, programs, documents, forms, and proof gates.
Assignments are created from Studio content pages — not from a separate Assignments screen. Assigning requires the Create assignments permission (assign:create); managers and admins have it by default.
Assign content
- Open Studio → the course, program, document, form, or proof gate.
- Publish it first — only published content can be assigned. The Assign button appears once the item is published.
- Choose Assign. The picker is titled Assign: {title} — *"Filter by role and location, then assign to the matching people."*
- Narrow the audience with the Role filter (All roles), the Location filter (All locations), or the Search box (*Filter by name or email*). The list previews up to 40 matching people.
- Choose Assign to {n} — every matched person gets the assignment immediately with status pending.
If nobody matches your filters you will see No people match these filters.
Where learners see it
| Content type | Learner surface |
|---|---|
| Course / program | Learn (and Home's next action) |
| Document | Documents |
| Form / proof gate | Tasks |
Learners are not emailed per assignment; overdue work surfaces through the alerts digest. Newly assigned work appears on Home as the next action.
Good to know
- Assigning the same item again to the same person does not duplicate their task.
- Due dates are supported by the platform but are not currently set from the Studio assign picker — assignments go out without a due date.
- Assignments never cross workspaces; assign in the organization where the learner works.
- Unlisting or unpublishing content later does not remove work already assigned.
